We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark. The real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.

It is up to 300 per ton here in South Dakota, 25 a ton less if it is picked up in semi loads. We picked up more ground and that is what they told me it is now. What we prepaid was 275 per ton minus the 25 for the semi loads so it came out to about 250 a ton back in October. That is for nitrogen.

Nitrogen prices can be explained away due to the fact that 80% of the cost is due to natural gas. North American natural gas supplies peaked years ago and 2_3 of Canadian NG goes to the US. Many new power plants and ethanol plants coming online and they eat NG in large quantities. The local nitrogen plant cut rates because its more profitable to sell the NG than it is to make N2. Dont know why potash is getting so expensive though. Just read an article saying that diesel may be tight by April. Welcome to 2008

Sure can understand your point on Fert. prices. Have you used any spreadsheet to figure cost per acre on corn productionIJ Just off the subject....See you are from TN. We enjoyed a trip to Nashville just after Thanksgiving. Have to say that we really enjoyed the "Grand Old Opry". Jack

cost_acre on corn for seed, chemicals and fertilizer is going to be about $240_acre. Not counting land rent ($80_acre or 1_3 share),insurance, machinery expenses, fuel, lime, or labor. Never been to the grand ol opery. been to opry mills and the opryland hotel though. very nice

We stayed at the Opryland Hotel for 3 nights. Sure can get lost around that hotel in the first day. Also had a dinner cruise on the boat called "General Jackson", the extra singing entertainment was good.
