Fescue is a grass like you mow in your lawn. People also cut it for hay since it is so common in this area. There are different varities but Kentucky 31 is the most common in this area.

Hey Sparky, We're 3_4 done swathing here, about 1_2 of what we've done has been good, the rest is light, has worm damage or is infested with cheat and the bromes that the seed buyers hate. Best we will have will be 6-700 pound seed. The past 2 evenings I've cut until around 11:30 at night to try to get ahead, I've had good luck until today I hit a stump - hour and a half of down time, 3 bent guards and 5 broken sections - not fun at all but its working fine now. Hope to be combining Monday. I'll keep you posted on whats up. Hope the storms missed you.... Adios, 95man

Glad to here everything is going good except for the stump. I came real close to on last year that the land owner didn't tell me about. I got my new schaffer from Sloan. It helped but I'm still getting straw in my clean grain system. I don't get any i my reclean system. I think when the straw is augered out by the shoe supply auger to the schaffer it gets pointer down before it gets air on it and it goes right through the schaffer and seive both. I'm going to take it out today and blank off the front part so the straw will be laying flat before it gets to the holes in the schaffer. Speeding my cylinder up to 8000 helped alot. How are your moisture and pricesIJ good luck and keep me informed

Sparky, I've been getting some pieces of straw in my grain tank also, I'm running an airfoil chaffer and have the front blocked off, running concave around 3 and cyl at 550 rpm and It's still breaking up straw - nonoe coming thru return elevator though - I think i'm having the hairpinning like you talked about. We started Monday around noon and ran until 9 pm had a decent day - dad's 6601 came undone from the tractor and he had to go get a new pto shaft built, my 7700 had an injection like spitting so I took it to town to get brazed and it still leaked - so I half as$ brazed a few spots and it sealed up but the combine of the day was the 6620 - what a machine, clean sample, no loss runs great and unloads great too. As for the seed all our loads tested in the 80 - 85 range and was all at 10% moisture, I hope the rain holds off this week!!! Well, thats it for now, it's out to get things ready for today. Have a good day harvesting, 95man

Which combine are you getting the straw in the tankIJ I opened my concave up to 4 on my 4400 and the last load I ran at the place I was at Monday evening was real clean, unloaded real good and everything. Moved to a different place yesterday where the seed was a little thinner and I got more straw. I'm having more trouble with moisture than anything. The first hopper I ran yesterday wasn't too bad but the one from down in the low bottom had a lot of green stuff in it, the 2 hoppers got mixed together a I got a bad test. Pretty much gave that load away. So I'm going to close off my bottom seive and run until my reclean plugs up and the start opening it back up a little at a time. I'm going to get me a tester ordered today also. I wish I was running in your area. I've never had a 10% moisure load. I'd like to see a 6601. I use to pull a 30. Do you block the fan off on your 7700 or the 6620IJ I started that way last year but my schaffer and seive would plug up tight so I took them off. Better go thanks for the reply. looking like rain here but it might go north.

Hey Sparky!!, We was going great guns until we got tripped up by the rains, yesterday (Friday) we hauled in the wagons we had filled up before the rain and they all were dry. On the last load we ran brought a sample over that we just run and it tested 14 on moisture, so we ran the 77 and 6620 from 5 until 9 pm yesterday - the seed tested 16 on moisture and was in my opinion "crappy" - had low bu. wt. and was weedy. The 7700 is the one putting straw in the tank - i'm having straw fall thru the walkers and come down and hairpin thru the chaffer, I already blocked part of the front off but the problem still exixts. The cyl speed is at 600 and concave at 4, from this point, the more cyl speed or less concave space will shred the straw too much. I don't plug the fan on either machine, the 6620 fan is running around 440 rpm and is losing very little if any seed while turning in an excellent sample, the 7700 is in the same speed range, so far i've been hesitant to open the shoe up and turn the fan up and see if the airfoil will work. Dad's 6601 is OK, it's easy to work on but parts are hard to find if you need something other than chains and bearings, I put a lot of work into fixing it after we got it, the last owner was apparently a dip, because it wasn't taken care of or maintained. For today we're going to start after the dew is off and see how things go, I hope to get around 80 to 100 ac done. later, 95man
