The sensors may need adjusted, they should have a threaded rod that's adjustable. You can use an Ohm meter to get them close and then you should be able to fine tune them with the controls in the cab. Also we had the same problem with the field tracker on our 820 head one time and it turned out that the sensors were on the wrong side, I swapped the sensor's and it solved the problem.

For the FT to work automatically, the header needs to be equipped with separate harness and sensors on each end of the header. Go to CNH parts page, type in "field tracker", 1680 field tracker will come up, then go to electrical system, then 1020 header and harness. There will be all the parts you will need. Or ask your parts man if a kit is available, that I don't know.

What J says above is correct. If you have located the info....great....or I still have to install a FT on a 1020 this year and the part number on the box is as follows: 87446214 Hope it helps. JK
