Combines finger augers

In soybeans it's great, more even crop flow the fingers allow you to lift your reel out of the crop and let the auger and fingers pull the crop in. With the reel lifted the beans aren't pounded out of the pods by the reel. No more bunches building up in front of the auger, keeps the crop flowing. Well worth it in soybeans!!!!

I traded my 920 flexhead for a 925F with full fingers for use on soybeans. This head was used with a 9500. Part of the reason was to match up better with my 12-30 planter. The 925 is a full 25' where the 920 was only about 19'. Before I frequently had trouble squeezing in 8 rows. With the 25' head I had little trouble taking 10 rows. The other reason was my desire to get full fingers. I was very happy with this head last season. In all honesty I did have some good conditions except for some winding on the reel which was due to a certain variety. I did notice that in slightly rolling fields, I did cut a bit higher on the "low side" which is a consequence of the wider width. I hear good things about the new 600 series hydra-flex head. As you may be aware, the fingers are now aligned rather than being staggered around the drum. I don't quite understand this but apparently the idea is to promote more even feeding.

I wonder how the timing is on the flighting of the table augerIJ We've seen how grain surges off the end of an auger. Which would be the best way to have the auger flighting in the middle of the augerIJ Flighting that ends on one side then the other side or flighting that ends both sides at the same time in the middleIJIJIJIJ

I also wonder why JD put the fingers in line on the 635 hydraflex heads. There would be a greater spike torque load on the drive and finger throw cranks as the fingers all engaged in crop at the front at one time. Maybe it is easier to manufacture and service with them all in lineIJ Maybe they want to feed material back under the auger in a bunch, then have it feed to the center in a ribbonIJ That part might make the most sense.
