Combines fire in asparator housing

On my N-6 I had this trouble when the venturi sheet metal in the exhaust stack rotted out allowing exhaust gases into the aspirator. Also the one way flap in the aspirator was not functioning right further sealing the fate of my plastic stuff. Things may be completely different on a 62. I always 20 years behind in technology

Sounds like venturi is not functioning.It is probably burnt out.Some others discussed your situation here months ago.Remove hose from cleaner and run engine.Hose should have suction at all speeds,never exhaust gas.Hot gasses are the only thing to cause your condition.

As pointed out above by "sidekick", this problem and some traumas arising from exhaust gases being drawn back into the precleaner were discussed at length some time ago. It is, in all probability, a rotted out venturi or broken extraction pipe inside of the exhaust stack. Check before moving as the plastic vortex generators [ the round plastic thigammys in the precleaner body. ] burn nicely and can light up the whole shebang with possible very expensive consequences. Been there! Done that! when the exhaust stack on our Cat fell off and I thought I could go the last 5 minutes to finish. Pipes and etc must also be airtight and not blocked in any way. Alternatively you may be blocking the air screen above the engine hood with chaff, starving the engine of air and then exhaust gases are sucked back into the air cleaner system, which happened to us on our R62. The search function is not operating on this site but Google has a "site seach" download which apparently works ok. Using this you can hunt through a site to find info logged previously. Had this happen on our R52 last year. Ended up blaming chaff building up and blocking intake screen. Was harvesting beans in a light drizzle which caused the intake screen to plug. ND Dan figured out the problem for me. Randy

Thanks fellows. I think I've narrowed it down to the hose from the asparator to exhaust. Ventura in pipe in excellent shape and hose is sucking now. The hose was really in bad shape(when I pulled on it came all apart.) New hose, hew muffler from last year and new asparator housing. Hope my problem is solves

Hoses were damaged from exhaust going the wrong way. Put the big screen on top of hood and it will likely not plug up again. Some got the big screen when 14" air filter system was added. If you install the 14" complete system you will want to mod asperator to get it to such out the dust it separates. I haven't found any bad venturis on exhaust pipes yet but surely will some day. Make sure they have some suck. Taping a clear hose onto hose that goes to stack and stick it in a bucket of water. Water should be pulled up into hose a minimum of 1" but better if 2" or more with engine at 2300 RPM. Any chance combine has been hauled with exhaust stacks taped shut and then started up with tape still on! Good luck
