Mid-west, If you are looking for some good cover plates, just call DandD Distributors in Oto, IA. They sell the Harvest Services brand for either the oem 2 piece concave, or their own brand one piece (which we have --1680, $50.00 each). Once you have the mounting hardware installed you can remove or install them in less than 20 min. You do cover the first concave and the front half of the second. Marv Gordon sells them also. We have a one piece set of his-2388, they are a little harder to handle than the Harvest Services ones. The oem one piece is not as clean on the bottom side as the Harvest Services ones, some little braces under there get in the way. Oto is in western IA. ph 712-827-4134. Good people to deal with.

We use a set of 3 Gordon cover plates in one machine. They are nice because you can quickly take them off if you need to. However, since we got them about 3 or 4 year ago the front concave has never been uncovered. So, in the second machine we just welded a piece of metal to the back of the concave and called it good. You probably need to put in 3 or 4, depending on how hard your wheat is to thresh and the shape of your concaves. Each concave takes 2 plates. If your concaves are like new and have all the wires in place, you probably don't need to do anything except fully retard the vanes over the front half of the rotor. What kind of wheat and where is it locatedIJ

located in Northern Illinios. The reason I ask about the cover plates is because I stopped at the local dealer and we looked thru the parts book, it looks like CIH sells little cover plates that set in the slots of the concaves, they sell for about 3 or 4 bucks each.

Thanks for the info. I haven't harvested winter wheat for years. I think the last time was with a 1480....with no header reverser....brings back some bad memories.

I'm familiar with the CIH inserts that you are talking about. They are actually just peices of tin shaped in a U that go through one opening in the grate and then you bend the back tabs over to keep them in place. I wouldn't waste my money, unless you just bought one and made the rest with a pair of tin snips. Years ago I put about a dozen in under the return auger to fight whitecaps and couldn't tell any difference.
