Combines Flax

As with spring wheat,3 cover plates help get a complete thresh. Have done flax for many years with a 1480 with std rotor. Specialty rotor should work well. We use the large wire concaves for all crops from flax to peas,add or remove cover plates to get a good thresh with minimum seed damage.

You might want to make sure the intensive threshing segments are in. I know some guys last year who ripped the back paddles off of their rotors while dropping flax straw. I've never heard of this happening before, let me know what you find. I haven't done any flax with our 590 yet, but I know we could fly in it with our 480.

We are running a 35 foot max-flex head in average flax. The cylinder was sped up to near max while the concaves where pretty much tight. The aggressive thresh segments are in and the disawning covers are closed. The sample was real good. We where breaking in a new operator and 3 mph was his comfort zone, at this speed the combine wasn't even sweating.

The 500 series are giving problems in flax. Apparently its wrapping at the back of the rotors, I was talking to a mechanic yesterday and he was saying they had been trying different things. They untimed the rotors and it seemed to make a big difference. The 400 series were amazing in flax, but it seems to be the new style rotors that are giving the problems, we'll likely be into our flax in another week, I'll let you know how we make out.
