Combines flex head

My friend larry's deere flex head did that too. We dont know if they are just poorly made, or what. BUT he changed over to Crary "gold" guards and now he has no problems. If you go to www.crary.com and go under "free stuff" and fill out this survay they mail you coupons on the guards. larry used the coupons and saved a few houndred over buying deeres guards.

There was a new flex offering this fall. I believe its a flex draper modle number 2062. It is a little diferent than a flex auger but it surely deserves a look since it has some huge benefits over the traditional flex head technology. Best of luck.

Russ, What's your biggest problem with the 1020IJ I like it a lot better than the old 820s JWK

Problems we have are trying to keep the drive end together, bushings are fine but the cheesy bar that connects under the wobbler box and runs the entire length of the head is not nearly strong enough, these engineers need to deal with this stuff out in the field. left hand reel sheet metal that turns with the reel fell apart around the grommets, dividers are nothing that can stand the abuse of running on the ground, we converted ours from 3" to 1.5", biggest mistake, lots of upkeep. The combine is a 2166 running 17.5' head I dont think it's a big enough head, bigger head= slower speeds and it will probably hold together better.

Russ- This was my first harvest with a 1996,20ft.mod.1020. It has 3" sickle and oil bath wobble box. This head floats well and cuts like a razor. I've had the same bad experiance with 1.5" sickle bars. My advice is go back to 3"and see if your dealer can fix {tweak} this head or trade for bigger 1020. Good luck! Wolffman

If you go to a bigger header and 3" Knifes you will have a lot better luck. We had one with 1.5 knife and it didn't work good a all.

that is a built in rock guard and yes it works real well with fast cutting speeds

Thanks but does it cut as low as the older deera flex fronts.We harvest a lot of lentils here and have to down on the ground to get them.
