Combines Ford 642 Comparison to 112 or 116

We had a 642 which we dealt off in 1984. At that time, we were looking at a Claas 96, which was supposed to be comparable to the Ford, and which (I believe) would be comparable to the 112. The biggest benefit I could see was less walker loss; - the 642 seemed to have this problem in small grains and beans. The extra horsepower and better monitors of the 96 was a benefit as well, but the price tag was too high. I would have to say though, that the 642 was probably the lowest maintenance combine I ever owned.

The Claas 112 is a 52" machine and the 116 is a 62" machine, both with the eight seperation cylinders instead of straw walkers. In general they are built a little heavier than the Ford and use Mercedes Industrial Diesel engines instead of the Ford diesel.

Thanks for your comment. We are sort of toying with the idea of a bigger combine, but in this area there are absolutely no Claas combines to look at.
