Combines Front Rotor Bearing

The bearing can be changed from the front. It is a tight but you can climb on the feeder house and work on it. You may want to block the rotor up and use the concave adjustment to lift the rotor. I have chnaged 2 bearings on our 8570s and around 500 hours on each. You will notice that the bearing housing is made poorly and the grease cannot get into the bearing. Grease the bearing before installation if possible. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, On our 8560 we never had to replace that bearing and it had over 3200 hrs on it. We got the job done, wish I had read your post before, never thought to grease the bearing before installing it. I guess we'll see if it goes out again in 500 hrs.

I think that the bearings probably not properly greased from factory so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Our 2 8780s seem to be good to at about 650 hours. Feel free to ask anymore rotory questions. I will try to help.

The combines are not too bad for noise except the hydrostatic pump has a whine to it. When we are using straight headers we shift down to l2 and this seems to help a bit. I am not sure if there is a kit to fix the whine. No problems in the 600 hours, but we have had both fuel pumps tuned because of the power problems that Cummins was having. Just keep all of the belts tight and do a good pre-season check and then we have zero downtime. We built our own bin extentions because the fadtory ones are too small and leak canola. We made the extentions 24" long and they hold a full hopper of wheat nicely. If any one wants to see pictures I can send some.

Glad to hear you have had no problems with your 8780. I have one being delivered next week. It will be my first experience with Massey so I am a little nervous. I drove one last week, but there are none near me. I had to drive 150 miles to see one in operation. I would like to see your extensions and any other tips you have to offer. Thanks.

How do you determine the value of an 8780 when there are so few in the marketplace and a lack of MF dealers to take care of them. We are looking at one and are trying to figure out what a fair price isIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJIJ
