Combines frost damage

I live in east central Kansas. Our wheat's head was from a few inches to nearly a foot above the ground, usually between the 2nd or 3rd nodule. We had 3 nights of from 19-23 degree temps_4 inches of snow. The book on wheat says that it should be toast but nobody is willing to state that with any certainty because we have seen it yield very well in the past when it shouldn't have. I have had wheat yield 50 b.p.a. that a Federal Crop Insurance adjuster had "zeroed out" in April. We need 2 weeks of warm weather before we really can know anything.

Here in S.Central Kansas we had temps. as low as 12. Went nearly all day Friday and Saturday without getting back to freezing. Most wheat here is up to your knee. Flag leaves are already brown today, and we haven't even had really warm temps yet. It is All hurt in this part of the state - Kansas City and Chicago Boards haven't totally figured that out yet.

What options do producers have for the acres that are severally damaged.

1. Wait for harvest and cut the damaged crop. let insurance make up the difference if you don't make your guaranteed bushels. 2. Get an insurance adjustment settlement done soon (good luck) and work up the crop (I'm not sure they'll pay on insurance AND let you graze or bale it - maybe someone here can clarify). Then plant to a spring crop, or leave idle.

Is your wheat lodgingIJ Mine is 25% flat with a kink in the stem the rest of it looks surprising good (for now). I hear the local Crop Quest guy is not very optimistic. Do you have any wheat contractedIJ What a stinkin mess!!!! Better stop working on my combine and look at my swather.

Some of the places that used to have the best wheat are lodged, and it has the consistency of canned spinach in these areas. Doesn't look good.

Here in SE Ks. some wheat has lodged other fields are brown, and a few look fair for now. Had 650 acres of corn 4" tall that is toast. We were below freezing for 12 hours twice with the low around 18 to 20. I herd a adjuster say in the boothills of Missouri there is 60 to 80% total loss. Our county also lost 10 million dollars in pecons.
