Combines frozen fuel line question

I my country we also have these troubles with freezing diesel. I have often installed a fuel pre-heater on the fuel-line, it use to be enough to keep the diesel from freezing. those anti-freeze additives you can get to keep diesel from freezing we usually don't use, so I would not know how much you should put in liters of entire tank capacity. Here in Denmark, there are different fuels, winterfuel and summerfuel, when we are using winterfuel exclusively, the lines never freeze.. Hope you can use this info! Regards M.skoubo technician

Diesel fuel conditioner or methyl hydrate should solve your problems. I have had fuel gel up in truck engines but that was during extreme cold --20C, pour in a litre of methyel hydrate into 400l of fuel ,wait a few minutes and problem solved. How cold are your tempsIJ Here the fuel suppliers all have a 'winter' fuel that seems to solve 99% of the problems except under EXTREME cold.

Use diesel fuel anti gel....not diesel fuel conditioner....or gas line anti freeze. Up here in Saskatchewan, must farmers, truckers use diesel fuel anti-gel. If you already have frozen fuel, your filters are more than likely waxed up, and will have to be changed. Make sure the anti gel is in the diesel and mixed a bit, before you put on the new filters, or the filters will just wax up again. let a bit of fuel run out before you put on filters. Conditoner does not prevent freeze up. Gas line antifreeze will harden up your O rings and cause you problems.

The temperatures here in Denmark sometimes exeeds -15 Degrees Celcious, and extremely cold conditions here would be about -20 C. Winterfuels usually solve the freezing problems, but we do have to change some waxed up filters once in a while. Where are you from, what's the temperature thereIJIJ Skoubo

We have trouble here in northern Ontario even with winter fuel. Temp today is -35C with wind chill around -47C. Generally add about half a litre to 1 litre of methyl hydrate to 100 gals of fuel. Conditioner won't help once fuel starts to gel.

hey thanks all this morning our temp is -25C or -12F it's not too bad(although the bottle of scotch i keep in my unheated shop was a slushy this morning) and i think my problem is not the fuel itself but condensation from a too empty tank the last couple of winters(we've been poor) what i've done is dump 100ml or 4ounces of diesel fuel conditioner into the tractor(200liter_50gal tank) and dumped 900 ml or almost a quart into the fuel tank(2000 liter_500 gal tank) that was the mixing info on the can now, i have another can and it sounds as though you folks are using higher concentrations.... should i put more inIJ this is diesel fuel conditioner i'm talking about this temperature range is normal for us but only for about 1 month in the winter(central ontario) thanks again for the info -Mark.

I ve seen a fellow fill the fuel filters on a truck with kleen flo fuel condtioner. Dumped the entire can in and it didn't seem to hurt the pump or injectors at all. Its not alcohol based so in theory won't hurt in high concentrations

We use howes fuel conditioner seems to work good been down -35 with no problems use twice as much or more if gelled up already Filled tank with winter diesel now so should be good for the three more looong months of winter
