Southern AB. the fuel price I quoted was of Friday our dealer had not seen an increase since Aug,4 at the time. I suspect it will change this week. Northern Alberta I'm hearing nothing under .68 delivered on Friday. PS you didn't answer the question on your costs per hour or acre. but I can get an idea from the .72

I wouldn't complain boys!! Try $1.25 per litre ( 1 gl = 4.5 litres ) for Diesel in Qld, Australia. And we don't have small sections to harvest like you do or they have in Europe.

Wasn't complaining I was asking, though thanks for the numbers. I suppose 7600 acres might be considered small to some it keeps us occupied though. always someone with more always someone with less but it's about the bottom line not the size of the loan.

So what does your bottom line tell youIJ As that was the point of the post! Would you_are you be viable at your fuel prices and how would you handle Australian_European fuel prices with your current farming systemsIJ Just for the record we are farming just over 4000 hectares (bit over 10 000 acres). And we are taking a serious look at our bottom line as fuel this week is continuing to sore! As nice as a new 400 hp tractor might be, you can't give away 2nd hand articulated 4wd tractors (particularly in the 200 - 350hp range) here now as many are pulling the tines of their planting machines and going back to much smaller front wheel assist machines to cover the area. I know of a number of guys pulling 60ft airseeders with 200ph tractors on 15 - 18inch spacing zerotill. One thing always intreaged me when in the US and Canada is the obsession with harvesting wheat 4-5 inches off the ground, no matter what the height of the crop, just to put it through a fine cut chopper at the back of the machine. Why not harvest just low enough to get all the head and preserve your stubble cover and moisture. Much low hp require, less wear and less fuel, opps there I go giving our secrets away again.
