Combines full finger augers

The composite fingers are nice with the rotary combines in rocks and grain when the concaves are tight, but the steel ones last 10 times longer under normal wear.

Max,I don't know what part of the world you are from, but here are a couple of places in Illinois that are doing it:Ag Machine Solutions,Virden,Il.[217]971-6532 model 920-$1700.Or try Marshall Ent. near McNabb,Il. phone-IJ price is similar. My neighbor converted his own 918 from a list of parts and advice from a friend.Keep looking around, there is a market for this conversion,so somebody should be offering it.Maybe one of these places would sell just the plans and parts list.Good luck.

A very in-expensive alternative is to install ear paddles. You can make your own out of an old tire or buy them from John Deere. The ones used on corn heads to feed the ears of corn into the feeder house. With the rubber paddles alternated across the width of the auger they work just as good or better then the fingers and are far cheaper and easier to install. I have run both and actually prefer the rubber paddles. They do a better job of grabbing the material and sweeping the floor of the head clean. I have never had a problem of material wrapping on them. Hey maybe I should market them as a after market up-date product!

was quoted 3 grand by local deere dealer. labour included of course. If the parts are 1800, looks like he was right. I live in the Iowa part of the world. GS

Great idea Nod, sounds like it just might work. A guy sure wouldn't be out much $ for trying. Thanks again for the tip.

It is good to see that the John Deere people are starting to see the benefits on advanced technology brought to us first by Caterpillar and Claas combines. This is just one of many examples that they will continue to follow.
