What kind of chaffer do you haveIJ I have the harvest services fan throat kit, open fan kit, non adjustable airfoil chaffer and I removed the first 5 louvers on the bottom sieve. Now I had a little trouble with this machine when I first bought it used. Tried it out first in Canola and couldn't get the darn thing to work. I never had a rotary before and didn't know about the troubles with the chaffers etc. So I took all that stuff off the combine and got a plain old OEM chaffer(as per dealer). Figured I had it solved and went out to the field that day. It worked better but it would either be dirty and shake it off the chaffer or blow out too much on the left and right sides. This was pretty crappy compared to what I had with my old IH Convenional. So I did some more checking and here the air foil chaffer was made incorrectly at the factory!! I had never seen one before so I didn't know what they were suppost to look like! Owner before ran it 2 years like that! Anyway I put the thoat kit back in and removed the 5 louvers off the sieve, fixed the chaffer and taped off about 8 inches on the front of it Had it all set and went out the next day. It was a new machine I swear you could not throw anything off the back of that chaffer in that canola field 45 bushel_acre. You drive as fast as the rotor would take it in and it did an excellent job holding it with a good sample. However the next year was not as good. It was extremely dry and the canola stocks were all busted up before they even got to the rotor it seemed. So I had a really heavy load on the chaffer. I was thinking maybe an ajustable airfoil chaffer may be good in conditons like that. It's frusterating because I can't seem to get it to work quite as good as it did the first year I had it. Some say I'm not being realistic as your not going to save it all. But the darn thing did it before so it should do it again! I'll see how it works this year.
