I attended an online seminar presented by the local community college and the guest speaker went on and on about the marketability of garlic. Really? Is garlic a big cash crop?

There has been a rising demand for garlic in the past few years. A while back, I read an article mentioning that farmers could make as much as $50,000 in profits. In the US alone, 300 million pounds of garlic got consumed in 2018. However, this is not income that you can earn overnight since garlic takes several months to reach maturity.

I grow garlic, but we just use it for ourselves. I didn't know there was a big market for it. It's one easy thing to start in the fall, so I'm surprised more people don't grow their own.

I would believe that garlic is a money maker! Our local farm stands were charging $3.00 for a clove. We grow our own too. I would say that I use fresh garlic in almost every meal I prepare.
