The tractor you are looking into, is it oldIJ I ask that because last time I knew New Holland sold off the Genesis and Versatile tractor lines to a Canadian company (Bulher....spellingIJ)

The new one's for next year will have an 'A' (8970A) behind the number and be available from New Holland for 2 more years if memory is correct. Buhler will be the manufactor but it is still a Genesis as before with just a touch more HP. Yes, they are great tractors and will be for years to come. I have had 2 8970's over the past 4 years with great success. My only real problem with them is that the newer one's have a lot less power than the first few years. They claim EPA regulations is why they are strictly adhere to the 210hp published now. My first one probably had an extra 50hp over the new one. Check'um out, huntr

You can't go wrong with a Genesis. These tractors are the perfect combination of power, size and tight turning with the Super Steer axle. The 7.5l Genesis engine is extrodinary. It has excellent lugging abilities, low fuel consumption and excellent response. Of course you already have experience with this engine in your TR99. The smooth shifting power shift transmission has many different features to make the job easier. It has shuttle shift, programable up-shift down-shift, skip shift and it even has a button you push for automatic shiffting just to name a few. Hit that buttom when you pull out on the road and floor it. The transmission shifts at the rated speed from 10th gear all the way up to the top end gear. The hydraulics on these tractors are phenominal too. On all tractors the gallon per minute is 33 but you can get the MegaFlow that puts the gallons per minute up to 55. The three-point hitch lift capacity is the highest on any tractor in this class too. I've had experience with and 8970 pulling a 13ft. disk-chisel and the tractor didn't even know it was pulling anything and I had the implement as low as it would go into the ground, running at around 6.5-7.0 mph. I would stick with the Case IH. Genesis dry sleeve engine, transmission can be very hard shifting between 8-7 and 9-10, the automatic shift shifts at too high of engine rpm and will cause it to overrev when downshifting, megaflow sounds good at 50 gpm but improves hydraulic capacity at remotes 3 and 4 only it won't actually give you 50 gpm at any one outlet.

Corn stalk, I agree with what has been said about how great the Genesis tractors really are. There is no tractor green, red,or Cat that compares. The transmisson is the same as JD,Cat, and maybe others.It has refinements farsuperior to deere. Engine is the most effecient of all. I have a question for you. What do you think about the TR-99IJ I have been trying tofind someone to give me a run down in comparison to a CIH or STS or others. I am a long time TR- owner and I need to know if I should be looking at some other color. I have had especially good reviews for the Straw chopper and the engine efficiency.

NHDon, thanks for the info on the Genesis. As far as my TR99 it might not see another harvest with me. I agree with the engine....especially it's full managment is excellent, capacity, and unloading rate are great, but as far as grain samples, day-to-day servicing, and comfort I have to say I miss my CIH 2388. While I was impressed with the TR's samples in soybeans, I felt in corn and wheat it just wasn't as good as I expected. I have a neighbour who is also a TR owner, he has already told me he will buy it if I choose to go back to CIH. My only hang-up is with the new CNH combines coming out soon, I don't know wether I should buy a machine now that won't be made in another year or so. The REAl challenge will be what new CNH to look at. Basically I am happy overall with my TR99, it has strenghts and weaknesses comparred to my old 2388.....bottom line they are both good and considering that I would not encourage you to buy anything other than another TR. You are obviously happy with them, and you must be getting good dealer support, so I say go buy another big yellow beauty !!!

Corn Stalk, Get a Deere. No question. The Genesis was probably a great tractor when it came out, but that was almost a decade ago, and with NO updates. The Deere has a tighter turning radius, better visibility with a bigger cab, better hydraulic flow (because Deere tells the truth - see that 55gpm also includes what it sends to the supersteer...which is a lot, when Deere states it's pump's output, it states 42...good advertising, but not the total truth). Oh, for another thing...the 8000 Series uses a John Deere transmission. It's not the same as the one in the Genesis. The one in the Genesis is made by a company that is owned by Deere, and it is way too big to fit in Deere chassis. Try the Deere. You'll lOVE the tractor, and you'll be amazed by how good the parts and service are.
