Combines Geringhoff Corn Heads

I seen one running at the farm progress show. Did a wonderful job chopping the stalks. The only negative that I heard was the robbed a lot of horsepower, and the $$$$$

Dibber, My neighbor and I spent a couple of hours with the combines at this years Farm Progress show. We looked at the 12 row folding Geringhoff head for quite a while. First, it was impressive how it folded. Second, we noticed more loss than the other 9750STS. Upon closer inspection, it was the head. The loss was outside the combine body. The conclusion we came to, is that the aggressivenes of the Corn head to chop the stalk causes severe butt shelling.

i saw the one run at the farm progress show, and to me it just cut the stalks closer to the ground, which could make them harder on tires. don't know of anyone who owns one.

We have sold one at the Deere dealership I work at. The customer likes the job it does in that he feels he doesnt need the shread corn stalks like he used to. The down side is that it is a very expensive head to purchase and a equally expensive head to maintain. The parts to rebuild the cutting area of the stalk rolls are very high priced. We have done most of the work on this head here at the dealership, but one year he took it to the company and had them rebuild it because he thought we were to high priced. The final price for their repairs was around $20,000. I know, I could believe it either. The head is an 8 row narrow and he has had it about 6 years. As far as breakdowns during the year he is happy with it. The row unit gearboxes are supposed to be nearly indestructable. It seems to me that the added cost of the head and the cost of maintenance would keep you in the nearly new stalk shreader for alot of years. Also, he is worried about what the thing will be worth if he ever goes back to a Deere head.

Harvestec is another corn header with a chopper. It is a simplier design and I think it is a European machine too. Crary also makes a Roto Chop attachment too. I think this subject falls into to the old "no free lunch" category. Chopping stalks takes a lot of power and I doubt that the combine header drive is designed to handle this extra requirement. And do you have engine power to spareIJ Or will you will to slow down and harvest fewer acres per day.

I just got one this year. neighbor has had one for three years. He has only spent $800 since he has had it to replace wore parts. I think it works great, had to put on the heavy duty belt tighteners and kevlar belts. I got an 8 row 30" on a 2388 can run 4.5 to 5 in 160 bu. corn. It chops all of the stalks before anything runs them over. In green corn it may take a lot of power, but this year is no problem.

looks to me as a Hungarian OROS cornhead. Did not own one, but pepole around here (in SE Europe) who work with them say nothing but good things about them (one of advantages round here are that they are simple and have cheap spare parts). Some times ago (and maybe now, who knows) they produced cornheads for ClAAS. Still chops different way than Greinghoff. Original OROS website is www.mezogeprt.hu , and last time I visited it worked only in Hungarian language (It is very tricky for pepole not speaking).

our local ih dealer has a cressoni from italy and cuts up the stalks very good it has a 2 chopper blades behind the row unit all in one gearbox works well
