I got the chance last year to go on a Claas sponsored trip to their main head quarters and factory in Western Germany. Given the size of their main factory (big enough to put Deere harvester works inside, for those of you who know the Deere combine factory ) I was totally impressed by their high level of integrated manufacturing technology and automated restocking ability to maintain the line, as well as each station on the line having a quality control specialist vs. having a quality control dept. taking only random samples like most other manufacturers do. Claas is also one of the last true manufacturers. They are probably the only one left who has their own foundrys (4 of them) for supplying virtually all of their products with the necessary castings. Claas also designs and manufacturers all of their own electronic and hydraulic components, from cylinders to solenoids, as well as every component of their drivetrain systems. And, not only for themselves, but for some of their competitors too (JD, CIH and NH). They also do quite a bit of automotive and aerospace work too, developing the tools for manufacturing such things as cam shafts for Mercedes and lifting systems for Airbus and EuroCopter. For their diversified products division, I think they mentioned that Ford Motor Company is there largest customer. To see that type of quality being put into their products and to know that other brands consider Claas' quality too, I am even more glad to have chosen a lexion. I have been to a couple Deere plant tours and they are nothing special, move you in, move you out. Claas takes their time with you and really rolls out the red carpet for you, not just for us from the States, but even for a dealer group from Germany that I noticed. We also got to tour the Claas world-wide parts depot, INCREDIBlE, automated robot parts pickers and restocking and 24 hour turn around anywhere in the world, it is huge and extremely high-tech. Probably the most fun was the last half of the trip where Claas sent us on a tour of Western Germany, the rhine river, as Castle, incredible food, wine and beer tasting and more. I am planning a similar trip for my family because it was so fun and interesting to say the least. If your Cat dealer asks you on this trip, don't think twice, go!

I went last year and second everything "land surfer" said. They are a first class operation, but I still bought a AFX8010.
