I can feel your pain MF the gleaner dealer close to me closed yrs ago and now I have to drive about 45mins to a hr one way. but agco assured us they are WORKING on that!!!! yea and the checks in the mail!!!!

local dealers are a thing of the past. With the shrinking customer base per square mile that dealers have to work with traveling longer distances will be the norm. Also because of the shrinking customer base and the fact that dealers do not sell as many items as in the past (grinders, spreaders, rakes etc...) there is not allot of incentive for someone to take the risk of starting a new business. I do believe though that something will take the place of the individual brand local dealer. Multiple line dealers will become more common and farmers will become less color conscience when it comes to parts, after all a larger portion of components in today's machinery are outsourced by the major manufacturers. I look at how the corner grocery store and gas station evolved into the convenence stores that are in just about every little town. Someone saw an oportunity to supply a need and make money. 45 minutes to an hourIJ Oh, cry me a river! We've had to go 1.25 to 2.25 hours away for over a decade for any color but (Ford) New Holland, and that dealer 30 minutes away isn't real good at stocking parts for anything other than skid loaders and compact utilities_lawn tractors anymore.

MF, Where do you liveIJ I run all AllIS and GlEANERS. They are my local dealer also. Send me a Email and I will let you in on some news about Burton- Einhorn.Bankruptcy would be mild for the things that has happened there in the last couple of years.Alot of tractors and combines not paid for over the last few years.Keep your shed locked if you have bought anything around there latley,AGCO is on the hunt. Have a dealer 10 minutes away and 1 an hour away. I spend more time with the one further away because of parts and price. Having a local dealer with no parts is worth whatIJ And when they do order parts they charge you extra cost for a special order.

Where I am here in the southeast, development is on the rise. Grain fields are being bought for development. Only the local Deere dealer has a combine contract to sell new machines. They sold only one in the last six years and that was to a farmer 80 miles from the dealership. They have to order almost anything you need. I get our Gleaner parts 88 miles away. Happy that they are as close as they are and he only deals in second hand and salvage machines. The next closest parts and new machine stocking dealer of any color is close to 160 miles away.

I guess I should consider myself lucky, my farm in Saskatchewan is 1_2 mile away from our local dealer. This is a big reason we have stuck with gleaner the next closest brand name is 45 miles, haven't always been the happiest with the product but nothing is perfect and the support and service is there. He has diversified into many different lines and products to survive, and the one thing I can't complain about is parts inventory. Our second closest Agco dealer would be 60 miles.

Our local dealer went belly up 5 years ago and they were supposed to be the worlds largest Gleaner dealer. There was one or two little dealers that tried to pick up the slack(you know the dealer whose shop is about the size of a good 2 car garage, don't have a computer and only one phone line). AGCO made no investment in keeping their customers happy so needless to say green and red have become the common colors. We still have a Gleaner but those days are numbered. Our last orange tractor is leaving tomorrow. Having been an orange man all my life it is so dissapointing to see a company whose only succes can come from acquisitions. Yes they have made some improvements to these items, but the 5 series combines are a joke. You move the hydro and make the cab nicer and you call that a new model. They can't even make a decent climate control for the cab. I guess if I had a good dealer close by my opinion may be different, but from comments on here, good AGCO dealers are darn hard to find.

Just curious what kind of trek you would have to make to get to your nearest dealer. Seems everyone has been comparing driving times. Have a good one.

We run a 62 and a 75, everyone out there makes small improvements and calls it a new piece of equipment, its been that way since the beginning. The 5 series, is a much nicer combine. Its ok if you dont believe so, its your opinion. Believe me if I was'nt running trucks most of the time and had a choice which one to run, it would definately be the 75. To me the 5 series is like a cadillac compared to the 2 series
