Well, to be honest, I don't know what it's governed at because the engine tach doesn't work right. I would guess I got it running around 2000 to 2500 rpm. I should check that out someday. I don't remember what the book says, I'll look it up later. Thanks!

You can do a lot to make those old Gleaner F's more efficient. It really depends on what you grow though. let me know (corn is a given! lol) and I'll get back with you. We have a few of those Meaner Gleaners. A 71' is a pretty old girl. The 292 is a good engine and the gear drive is dependable as well. Glad to hear you've finished.

Sorry it's been a while, I've been so busy in school lately! You didn't buy it, you stole it!!! lol The book is at home, but I believe the engine rpm's run in the range of 2200 to 2500 but we have my dads set up at 2800 so the machine runs faster, just like the F2. That is how they got more capacity out of the F2 and F3, just speeded the machine up (among few other changes). There are a couple of other ways to do this as well. Is your F a corn and soybean special or just an F. Make sure (I'm almost positive though) that your walkers have screens in them (for corn cobs). Also check the wooden blocks for loosness. Shouldn't be too loose or too tight! Do you have much of a rock problemIJ Growing those crops, I'd stick with the rasp bar. You may want to reverse them though (easily done, just time consuming). Can do that from top. Check return auger while your in there. Also reverse the flails on the chopper. Put them in same postion to balance them. Make sure all your fingers are in your feeder beater and they are timed right, and take off the inspection cover and grease the bearings!!! I would change all fluids and oils, just for peace of mind. Blow out all filters, clean the radiator. Check all hoses, and clean out carb filter (on top of carb) and fuel bowl if dirty. Inpect bearings, and check belt and chain tensions, and sprockets as well. Be careful on the long chain on the right side of the machine, don't overtighten or you will bend shaft(s). Do you have a heater in the cab, and how about a gauge what tells the fan speed, engine speed, ground speed, and cylinder speedIJ Also do you have two separate engagements, like one to the right of the seat which you push down and one in the front of the cab on the left hand sideIJ Also what type of sieves and chaffer do you haveIJ Do you have risers on your walkersIJ What type of raddle chain style is yours(old and new)IJ Do all of the green lights and blinking red lights workIJ let me know the answers or most of these and we'll go from there!
