Combines Gleaner F project dropped got K2 instead

I have an F and a '78 model long tail K2. The K2 is a better handling machine, slightly easier to set and usually will give a cleaner smaple. The K2 will roll smoke under load but fuel consumption is not bad at all. 10' of good small grain is enough if you have heavy straw loads. I find mine is somewhat hard on engine air filters, 50 hours is about the upper limit on filter life.

Sounds like a good deal, but you won't know for sure until you get it in the field. Why was the person selling the K2IJ The F machines are alot heavier. They are just as easy to manuever, especially when you can take 5 more feet of swath! If you don't have alot of acreage to cover the K2 will probably handle it. If you can come across an F2, the 292 motor is awesome and everything is built alot heavier it would be better. Depends on what you are doing though. Good luck! ;-)

The K2 came from a farm where the 80-something man was retiring. I will use this machine on 80 acres of soybeans, 20 acres of oats, and 20 acres of wheat. No corn, as I harvest 25 acres on the ear for sale as livestock feed (and right now, I'm the only game in town with ear corn).

A little tip to keep the mice from chewing up your wiring in the new combine. leave the door and the window both open when you park it in a barn. We had the same thing happen with our F2. They chewed through every wire in the cab practically. We found out that they get in the cab and if it's all closed up they can't find their way out so they start trying to chew they're way out. We've left the cab all opened up since then and haven't had another problem. It needs swept out before harvest every year from sitting in the barn with it all opened up but that's a small price to pay compared to rewiring the cab of your combine.
