Combines Gleaner K Pros and Cons

Great machine to run or work on. Most AGCO parts are still available for them. There are lots of them still in use out there. K2 are the next model after the K since 81. Comparable to JD 3300 perhaps. K can handle 3 row corn head or 10-13ft head. Few had A_C, 250 Chev motor sweet but use a little more gas..few diesels out there. Depends on what you are wanting or how many acres. Con might be too little of machine for what you want. lots of F and F2 being sold in my area very inexpensive for the machine. Price of most K's I have seen range (with heads) from 1000-2500..K2 1500-4000...F and F2's seem to run 2500-6000 depending on machine. Ran Gleaners E,CII,F as a young boy...loved the E and F not crazy with the CII. I do research plots with a K and K2. I will not consider any other machine because they are simple and dependable. I do preventative maintenance and have been out only one day in 5 years harvesting 1000 acres in that time between the 2 machines. They can have my Gleaners when they pry my cold dead fingers off of them! Will try to help answer any questions you might have. The Gleaner guys at this site know their stuff and have always been helpful. that is why I always come here to this site. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I haven't seen it yet, but have been told that it has seen little use. 13' platform, engine doesn't use any oil, no corn head, shed kept for probably all it's life least ways the history that i've been able to trace back. $600.00 and it's mine. How about a 330 corn head......Any out there for a K reasonably priced and in or close to ohio. I've got a junk 240- head for our E, like those narrow rows though!

I just picked up an A330 corn head for a K2. Was not at all hard to find. Our K2 diesel has pushed an A438 corn head for years. Makes for a full belly, but it does OK, with it.

What part of Ohio are you inIJ Seems to be quite a few Gleaners in west central OH. I have an 330 orange head (I live in SE IN) I might sell if I could purchase the black head I was looking at. Price on combine not bad, but if not in use for a while bearings, belts, etc. may give you some problems. Are tires dry rotted, sprockets worn, head beat up anyIJ What year is the KIJ How many acres are you wanting to run through itIJ I agree the narrows are the way to go.

We're looking at running 200 acres a year with possabilties to pick up a small amount of custom work for a couple friends. Some of that 200 acres though will be split with our E. The guy bought a JD 6600, selling the K to buy a new transmission for the Deere. He's been using it the past couple of years. It had sat 4 or 5 before he bought it. Actually this machine is in west central ohio, between wapak and lima. Ironically our E was formerly owned by the same person with the k, he sold the e to someone else who we then bought it off of. It was _ is in good shape, haven't seen the K yet but have no doubt it's in good shape. I know it has at least new steering tires. My email address is: whol_jjohnso@tccsa.net Keep me in mind if you get that black head. thanks jj

Did I read that right, four row wideIJ I have a 330 head I would sell, needs some tinkering though, If I don't sell it when I get done running corn two rows at a time this year I will probably fix the three row over the winter and look for six row planter for next year. Didn't know K2 could handle four row wide head. Is yours a long walker modelIJ

K2 diesel, long tail, n25652, original owner. A438 head, just don't get in a hurry. Have done 46 acres in a day. You will need the larger front tires and the reinforcement kit for front axle.

Once upon a time in Indiana, my K2 was pushing a 4-row corn head. It came to New Jersey without the corn head, but the reinforcement bar and the big tires are still on it. Which means I can't quite fit behind an A238 black frame. Still haven't drug that Kl335 orange frame home.

If your going to go through the time and money to buy a different combine go with a f or even an m. The K would be great if you only farm 80 acres or something like that but not alot more. To this day we regret not buying something bigger when we bought ours. last year at Farn science reveiw I watched a R62 with a 12 row go faster than our K would have with a 2 row. In corn maybe you could do an acre an hour tops lets not even discuss beans. They do an excellent jobs cleaning the grain out we had received compliments on that. If you buy one expect to get to know your gas and oil man well. All in all your better off with a K than some other color atleast they belong in the proper family just maybe the black sheep of the family.

Go for a bigger machine. Get at least a f2 or larger. Most people regret getting too small of a machine.
