Put chopper on high speed. Move knives into chopper. We run 3 channel concaves, 550 RPM, and about 3_8in. clearance on F3.

Do you run concaves 2-4-6 on beansIJ I have been running 2-4 and about 5_16 clearance. About 700 rpm. I have been running 2-4-6, 550 rpm 1 inch clearance in corn and it is always a pain to take out and put in concaves.

I run half round concaves in corn in positions 2, 4, and 6. In beans I just add a channel concave in n1. Easy to change and works good too. You need a concave in n1 in beans for rock protection. With half rounds in 2-4-6 for corn and none on n1 you can push it in corn and not pop the door open.

Tbran says use 1_2 rounds so I tried it in my F2 this fall. At 1,3and5.Zero cyl and set guages.Had good shelling and little cracking in CandB.Cyl was little over 500 in both.Clearance; corn 5_8 whole cobs 18% 123bu ave- beans 1_4 leaving lots of pods still on stem(open of course)12% 47bu ave..Round tooth chaffer "modified"per hyper mods.Ran it open more than I expected.Air at 7 on corn,6 on beans.4.5mph corn(4-30) 3.9 beans 15ft.Better samples than channel covcaves gave me with little to no shoe loss.Had 44A of each and only kicked trap door open once in beans when green stem wad went through.Wide space bars.Smoothest harvest in years.I think it was the 1_2 rounds but maybe it was just the year.Good luck.

Yes I will have to try the half rounds. The channels are too harsh and besides they are shot anyway. Hyperized my F2, chaffer wide space bars by St John and turned 6 of the 8 bars to throw on the up side on side hills. What a world of difference. No shoe loss now except a time or two on extreme sidehill and if I watch my returns closely I catch it in time. Don't know how you get whole cob on 5_8. When I set at 3_4, I was still grinding cob. Went to one inch and now get whole cob and perfect shelling. Perhaps differnet hybrids make a difference. Do you have rocksIJ I was always told never put concave in 1 position unless you have rocks. No rocks to speak of.My uncle told me years ago to leave off of door in corn cause vibration was hard on latch.That's what I did for 19 years with the old A2.Tbran said n1,3and5 for corn and beans.(that's basically what the book says also)Soooo that's what I did .My bars ars welded and have extra short bead in center of tooth which kinda mimics standard bar profile.I don't know if that's why 5_8 worked or what.A few broken cobs but not split.I started at 3_4 and was leaving too many kernals on cob. Next 11_16,then 5_8.I'm sure varieties make a difference too.Same n on my 44A.Them 1_2 rounds are $60+ apiece!!I didn't have time to fool with it so I bought them.I bet my machine shop could get 1" 1_2 round stock cheaper,then drilland tap your own holes.

Thats what I was thinking about the price of the half rounds, but didn't think it was that bad. Feel like I am held up by bandits every time I go to the dealer for parts. Almost done for this year. But will try make my own half rounds for next year and try running 1-3-5 on everything.

Best part of 1,3and5 for both is... no changing positions when changing crops!!!On the 'ole A2 I ran two rows of rasps and used to switch 'em back and forth.1and3 for beans and 2and4 for corn.Decided after about 10yrs I could just run 'em in 2and4 for both.Can't remember if trap door ever got knocked open after that.Seemed to get good thresh with those rasps but I believe these 1_2 rounds(3vs2) does better with less cracking.I used to pull every cyl bar for beans.That combine wanted to growl and bang feeding beans.Even put brand new bars in and made no difference.(still got 'em in the shop-less than 10A)Welded every other tooth up and put old bars back in.With 4 bars in it would EAT green wads of anything without hardly any noise.It would work the engine pretty good and you wanted to keep an eye on the chopper belt.Back to concaves-I bet you could take 1_2x1 bar and grind leading edge at 45deg and get near same result.I always got ideas for"next year" but harvest always gets here before they're implemented!!!!Have a good one.
