Combines Gleaner vs JD heads

We have ran a Deere 220 head with dial-a-matic for 5 years on an l2. Had to add a conversion kit to get the three position head to work. They are low voltage vs. 12v. It likes to scoop rocks. Bought another l2 with 320 head and it is better than the Deere head on the same machine.

You mentioned a conversion kit because of voltage. I am about to use a JD 220 on an R-50 for the first time this year and would like to know more about this kit. Is it from Gleaner or DeereIJ Thanks

The conversion kit came from a company in Iowa. I will see if I can find the adress and name. I called the Bish company to get it. The kit consists of a regular Gleaner series 3 sensor, linkage adapter, and wiring harness. You have to drill 2 holes, but it is not a hard conversion. If you are using a Deere head with the single position sensor, you do not need it.

We had a hard time with it scooping up rocks and dirt. It wants to tilt down on the guard points. We tried adjusting the angle of the cutter bar, but if you drop the adjustment bolts at the back of the head too far, it will drag trash. Also, the 320 head has header control sensors on both sides of the head, where the Deere has only one. And, if you have to buy both the feeder house and oil drive adapters, you will spend another $2,000.

As I commented earlier, why would you want to run a JD head, they are worthless, pieces of junk, sell the stupid thing to some poor JD lover, then go buy yourself a good Gleaner table, you'll thank me for it. The JD heads have no flex travel, JD has 3.5" compared to 6" or 7" for the Gleaner. I have used both, I am the voice of experience, the JD heads are woodchuck killers. Instead of going over the mound the JD cuts it off.

I've have run both gleaner heads and JD heads on all of my gleaners. True the gleaner floats more, but even on my tuffer ground i rarely needed the extra flex. The JD does flow the material in a whole lot better and having the dual drive is a bonus. You wont need a pipe above your sickle to get a JD head to pick up short beans.

I have run JD platforms and corn heads on gleaners 220,224 and 925 heads no complaints here, the heads are very similar. If you want a bigger head than a 20ft go green the price will be HAlF of what the AGCO guys will charge you. Junk not hardly.

You said you have run a JD 925 head on a gleaner.What sizeIJ And was the conversion a big deal,in means of money and the hook up. What about the Hydralics and float sensor. Thanks
