Combines Gleaner with JD Corn Head

We are running a JD 40 series configured as a 12-20 on a R62. This does not have the hydraulic deck plates, but does have the knife rolls and header height contol fitted. We ran it as a 842 on an R5 for 10 years previous to our R62. We made the head to fit the R feeder house rather than using an adaptor. That isn't too difficult a job. Black paint and gray poly from GVl for the rows almost make it look like a Gleaner head! We also made mods to the auger to fit the offset of the Gleaner feeder house. Driving the auger with the reel circuit hydraulics allows adjusting the speed to conditions. We like the job it does and the ease and cost of keeping it going. Huggers are nice, but we do like our JD to Gleaner conversion.

Bish sell an adapter to fit a JD head on a Gleaner. listed under Harv's Farm Supplies in (I think) Giltner Nebraska. Not sure if he has a web site bit someone else on this forum should have his phone n. I have one of his adapters for a R52_62 to Case IH for sale that I am not using.

We run a six row forty series JD on our R62. We like the Deere head for its durabilty and it is easy to maintain. This head is a 1976 or 77 model and we have owned it for over 20 years. In that time only once have we had to go into one of the gearcases to replace a broken gear. We have the Bish adapter and extended the flighting to make up the feeder house offset. If a Hugger is out of your price range a Deere is a good choice for a corn head.
