They can be rebuilt. Friend of mine had a 292 in a pickup that they bored out and put sleeves in. Got 140,000 miles out of it before they did the O_H. Got another 160,000 out of the rebuild. Then the truck was about ready to fall apart. I know of an F with 4000 hours on the original 292. I think it's just starting to blow oil smoke. Owner probably won't do an O_H, as he's getting ready to retire and the old F is going to need a lot more done than an O_H anyway.

They are just a car_truck engine.Can be bored .030 .040 .060 over.If not really trashed,you can go .030 the first timeand.060 the second.With proper care_maintainence the first bore job should last as long as you do.
