Don't know what price range you have in mind, or size, but you should look at the Bourgault 5710 Air Drill. Can be configured to what you want, from 7 inch spacings ,to 9.75, or 12 inch. Also the mid row bander can be adapted to dry, liquid, or NH3. We have "0" tilled since 1998, and this is the top of the line air drill. We also custom seed with this unit, and can use it as a regular drill. Go to www.bourgault.com for a better look.

what spacing do you runIJ do you use a wide boot to spread the seed or normal narrow rowIJ do you use there mid row banderIJ not sure that would really be worth the $ as long as you can get enough fertilizer seperation with the hoeIJ I have a neighbor they put down 300n per acre through there old 7100 IH hoe drill with the seed and don't seem to have any wrecks and allways have really nice standIJ thanks

I have a 2004 5710 series II 64 feet with a 5440 tank with cab rate adjust (CRA) and twin 1200 NH3 tanks and have 12.6 inch spacings with 3.5 steel packers, my mid row banders are shanks not the colters, from my on farm testing a bearing and a disk gave me nothing but trouble after 15000 acres the shank has seeded over 12000 now and have had no trouble at all,I have ran dry 46-0-0 and nh3 with this unit and it works great,my wheat protein for the last 2 years have been over 15 and yeilds are still the same as when I conventional tilled,as for openers i run a 3_4 inch on the seed shanks and a 3_4 inch on the bander shanks, but this opener is diff from my seed opener as it puts the fertilizer 1 inch below the seed bed.I have put down over 400lBS of seed,fert(46-0-0),and starter fert(11-52-0) and have had no problem(I run dual fans and a dickey john NH3 kit),as for what I do not like on the drill is my packer choice, this winter I will be switching to the 4 1_2 rubber wheel as I feel my field will be smoother with this choice. This drill is the 4th seeding tool on my farm and they all have been bougault. If you have any IJ just e-mail me.

We run the 9.75" spacing, using 2 1_2" spoons. 3" steel packers. We are looking at going to the 3_4" opener for a smoother and less disturbance finish. One thing I might add, is that since using the 5710 since 1998 with mid row banders, our protien in our spring wheat has gone up, and has stayed up. Our elevator manager keeps on asking us how come we always bring in the wheat with the hightest protien. My answer is perfect nitrogen placement. We use dry nitrogen (46-00-00),and I would like to hear from anyone using liquid or NH3 on their midrow banders, if they are getting just as good protein, and if the believe it is from the the placment of nitogen, or what do they thinkIJIJ

We run a 45' Flexi-Coil 5000 air drill w_ 7.2" spacing, 3" rubber packers, 3_4" Atom Jet knives, w_ tow-behind a 2320 air cart (230 bu.) and a 1500 gal. liquid cart behind that. (a very long train by time everything is hooked up) Our liquid N is dribbled beside the opener and our dry fert. is put down w_ the seed. We have NO trouble with seed burn in any type of crop w_ dribbling the N. This machine gives the smoothest fields compared to any machine (and I've driven over the competitors)! But that has alot to do with the type of opener you use and shank spacing. Start using a knife that has a 2" or 3.5" spreader you have the expect roughness and the wider the shank spacing does make a difference in roughness. Also speed you seed at has an impact too. The Atom Jet knife seems to last longer and leave smoother finish as compared to a Bourgault or Dutch Industries knife; and easier pulling too. The only downfall of this machine is the number of shanks (there's 72) a person has to deal with (checking hoses, knives, trips, packers, etc.) Kinda higher maintnance on that part. I like dribbling the liquid N beside the knife as to get away from the mid-row bander coulter_shank; less maintanance (no shanks, trips, knives to worry about OR if using coulters there's no disk and bearings to deal with) and we get better trash clearance especially w_ the spacing we use. Also when we seed grass or pulse crops there's no coulter_shank being pulled in the ground that's doing nothing anyways. As for rubber vs. steel packers. Sharp rocks will cut up the rubber sometimes. With rubber you can seed in more mudder conditions b_c it will flex and shed off mud. The Flexi follows the ground very good and the air cart is very accurate. If your after unreal seed placement. Take a look at a SeedMaster or Seed Hawk. But they leave a rougher finish (due to there dual knife system). And possible high maintnance down the road too (alot of hyd. cylinders) w_ that type of machine. I don't want to start a seeding tools war as I did alot of comparing w_ the mid-row bander. They do work and get great results as the guys on other posts have stated.

Yes, we've seeded wheat on wheat_chemfallow stubble and had no problem. Depending on how thick the trash coverage we might heavy harrow before seeding. I've custom seeded into some pretty ugly looking chemfallow (the dead weeds were higher than the drill frame) and things turned out alright. Had trouble plugging up w_ trash if it was high humidity or dewy. We put down 15 US gal_ac. (which gives us 50-55 lbs_ac. of actual N). We've gone as high as 25 US gal_ac in oilseeds and had great results.
