Combines Grain headers auger vs draper

Drapers by far feed better, more even, and make a big difference in a combines performance. With the even feeding of a draper, your combine will not surge as bad, have a lower and consistant loss, and improve the wear life of the combine. looking at combines with both heads, drapers surpass the augers. You see a big difference on rotors when it comes to ground speed, rotor speed consistancy, and losses. On conventionals, you see the same as well. Also, on conven., when you look in the walkers the material mat is more even. When grain hits a con. cylinder stalk first, there is a chance for it not to even hit a rasp bar. With heads first feeding, that cylinder can work at max. HB or Macdon, I have to say HB. They have a wider throat on them and a more aggressive feed drum. They are heavier built too. If you want to know more email me.

I was skeptical at first, but after getting it set up right, the macdon is much better than an auger header. Our first set up was on a new holland, and the narrow adaptor seemed to be the limiting factor for feeding well. But this year we got the wide adaptor on the front of a Cat, and it really is incredible how much, and well it feeds. Another plus is how "light footed" it is, as far as following the ground through ditches and such, thanks to a good spring and guage wheel setup. I am not sure how wide the massey adaptor is, but it can be frustrating if it bunches up at the front of the feeder. But if it isn't restricting, you will notice a 10-20% improvement in your combine's capacity. I couldn't comment on a honeybee, but everyone says the 973 cutterbar will do better than a honeybee in soybeans.
