thanks for the help. most of the loss seems to be riding over on the shoe. when we increase the air it blowes it over. have puchased small seed kits and are going to try them next year.

Don't know ground speed but I would try travelling faster to load shoe. Knock top sieve down a little to improve direction of flow of air to carry chaff out. I usually run rotor at 600 - 700 rpm and air 3-4. One tonne per acre crop at 5-6.5 mph (R-72)with 25ft windrow. Do not use small seeds kit although have tried one in a previous R-62.

Here's what the experts told me when we first started with canola. Concave 1_2" 500 to 700 RPM. No small seeds kit. 5 on wind. 7_8" to wide open on chaffer. 1_8" on sieve. 4" board on back of chaffer so good seeds would have to get over it. Raise header auger to prevent plugging and reduce shelling. Some have removed some header auger fingers so bunches get ripped apart better before entering feed chain. Run return to cylinder to help prevent overloading right side of chaffer. Cut when brown not green or else you will get red kernals not black. Red kernals are immature and very light. 3-5% trash in hopper is normal. 1000 kernals per square foot behind shoe with 24' cut is about 1_2 bu. which I guess is acceptable. 1000 lb per acre is poor and 2000 is good. May try running feed chains on slow to help prevent ripping up straw. 750RPM on cylinder will start to crack crop at 5% moisture. Some have installed thick filler bars in concave and or bolted solid plate in to prevent breaking up straw. Third helical over top left corner of feeder opening would be good. Get rid of aggresiveness of seperator grate and extend them cylinder bars. I have heard of guys cutting to first few levers of chaffer loose from adjuster and using separate lever to adjust them. I don't think you need to do that with the long shoe.
