Combines Green but open to ideas

We have a 1480 with over 5000 hrs on it. Maitenance is running at about $3.00 per acre with essentially no down time in season. Compared to a 6620 etc. working on an IH rotary is a piece of cake. No hidden shafts, grease zerks under the seat, etc. We went from a 00 deere to the 1480 and the only thing regrettable is that we weren't able to do it years earlier. The other nice thing is that as updated come along many of them transfer over to the older machines. We have quite a few 88 series parts on our old 1480. Chads

Paul, If you have a good Case dealer, you might want to put it through their pre season inspection. I did that when I switched from Deere to a 1460 and it was the best $300 I spent. They knew what to look for on an IH machine and I didn't. Get all the manuals, they are like other combines with bearings, belts, chains, augers to be maintained. The 1460 is much better than my old 7700, a far smoother running machine and much more comfortable to drive, no problem getting parts and not bad to work on as far as combines go. Only down side compaired to a 7700 is it takes about two hours to switch from corn to wheat. Corn to beans only takes a few min. after you change headers.

Watch the front hubs I know they werent very good on the 1480's. The good hubs are smooth and dont have three bolts through them.

The hubs are different but the bearings and everything else are the same up through at least a 1680. looking at dealers parts book the other day. Never had a hub problem on our 80 and pack an 883 which is HEAVY. Chads
