Combines ground speed tach R52

sounds like a shorted or broke wire or bad or moisture in a connector. The tach does not know what it is reading out, you simply change input wires when you change the dial. You can check this out by bypassing the harness and running a separate harness from the module to the speed sensor.

Also be sure sending unit is centered with the slots in sending disk. Adjust for close clearance but not rubbing. Good luck

Yes and while you are down there make sure the disc is not slipping or 'freewheeling'.

Had this happen on an R-62 speed could be anywhere from .5 to 120 mph our problem ended up being the dash console changed it (on warranty) and problem solved they tried settting and changing the sender first but no luck.

Yes it was the console around the steering colum, the slower we went the faster it read and vice versa.
