Combines Hanging onto their Gleaners

Have a couple local salvage yards here too and they only have about a dozen Gleaners and the rest are red and green with about 400 combines total. Sadest thing is to see green ones less than ten years old with less hrs on them well out number the Gleaners . Newest Gleaner is a 1983 N7 that needs minor repairs to be field ready.

A year or two ago there was a glut of lease return green combines on dealer lots that wouldnt sell for neither love nor money. Newspapers were full of ads for them. Then truckers started hauling them from auction to auction hoping to snare a sucker, I mean buyer. Maybe some of them ended up in salvage yards. Tom in MN

Correct me if I wrong but.... In most cases if you owned say A JD 7720 or 8820 and you go into youR JD dealership for a part, he will probably have to order it, or may not even be iterested in talking to you about parts for it... ( they seem only interested in new equipment) And I know case ih has been very quick to obsolete parts on older machines and realy gouge you on old stuff.. But on the other hand If you own an l2 l3 or n6 and you go see your Gleaner dealer he probably has the part on the shelf or at least will order it,,, maybe even robb his own machine to get you going.... Thats why People hang on to Gleaners... All in all I would say Gleaner dealers are more resourcful and harder working that most other brand dealers.....At least that is what I have obsevered over the years..

I searched through hell and high water to find a K2. The little Gleaners are about the only small machines that anybody who needs a small machine wants around here anymore. The MF 300s, the JD 3300s, and the IH 615s don't bring anything at auction, but a nice K2 with options (like mine) will get bidders. My only problem is, if and when I decide to get a corn head, I would need a 3RN, which is scarcer than hen's teeth. Gleaner heads are hard to get around here. Maybe I'll go with a Bish adapter and a JD 343. There are piles of those JD heads around here.
