Combines Hard starting M11

Does your combine shut down by turning off the keyIJ If so, you may be experiencing the deterioration of the solenoid which holds the fuel shut-off in the on position. My CaseIH magnum tractor has such a device - as do a lot of Cummins truck engines - and it behaved as you describe. Had to finally replace the solenoid unit.

There is a fuel relay solinoid under the edge of the radiator frame. Have had this happen several times. In an emergency you can take apart and clean. If I remember correctly they have come out with an updated solinoid that seals out the dust better. Haven't had a problem after replacing with the new style

I have one doing the same thing, Dad says it won't do it if the fuel tank is over half full, I 'm not sure if that has anything to with it, but we have been keeping it full. It is very agravating and you almost want to kick yourself just after you turn the key off, I think I'll check into that relayIJ

Thanks for the help guys, I'll bet that's it. I will get the updated Solenoid and be ready to go next year.

i had a problem with my 72 also. when it was warm if you tried to restart, the cranking motor would really labor to get it to turn over. it actually destroyed some batteries. cummins said it was design problem with the fuel return. this was on 96 year machines i had 3 that were all doing the same thing. traded them off before cummins fixed it. the 99 machines doen't have the problem. this is probably what your dad is refering to with the fuel level.
