Combines Harvest in Pakistan

I saw a picture of harvest in that part of the world in Farm Journal years back. In the background there was a Massey Ferguson 685 I think which was probably made in Germany for export as well as local use. It was about the size of a 300 and had similar rounded lines with top mounted grain tank although they were sacking the grain. In the 80's MF sourced rice combines for North Africa from Brazil. These combines were a later series but probably a much updated version somewhat similar to the 685. These are made in Brazil and may be exported to Pakistan or neighboring countries today. IT's been a few years since I have been to Pakistan to be in the country to observe ag.Massey combines were the only ones back then.Today it is totally different. With Fed-Ex flying Asian supply routes daily partscan be obtained almost within a day. Formerly you saw more machines setting waiting for repairs than you saw in running order.MY advice to this fellow is to show him how to develop his "life lines" to service and especially parts. They have very little service experience and know how about oeration and adjustments.An interesting but true story. "In this farm village owned by a family that owned a pharmicutical business we were visiting with the small children and women. We had taken small toy tractors along for gifts for the kids. Some of the kids and mothers were whispering among themselves in the native language. We discovered that their Question was- When and how big will these little tractors grow up to be".

We sold last month a New Holland 8070 at a Pakistani. He has bought about 30 New Holland's over here (walker machines 1545, 1550 and 8070). Boozie from Europe (Belgium)

Things certainly must have changed since I was there with the Peace Corps. I never saw a combine in the two years I was there. Wheat was harvested by beating it on the ground and then they waited for a wind to come. They would drop the grain from a height and the chaft would blow away. It employed a lot of people and that was important. There were a few MF 35 tractors there. In the Punjab area the fields were not big enough to get a combine into.

Hey, A 8070 is a 155 hp combine with 5 walkers. Made from 1978 to 1987. 1545 and 1550 are older ( I think the New Holland 1500 is the American version of our 1550) How they compare to a MF I don't now because here aren't any MF combine. To transport it to Pakistan they (2 Pakistani)have worked 3 days to put it in a container. In pakistan they assemble it in 2 days with 8 men.
