Enjoyed your day by day journal and pictures of wheat harvest out in the NW.We were out your way recently and spent the eve of July 11th at Walla Walla,WA Super 8 after coming thru lewiston,ID.Wish we could have been out there during wheat harvest to see the hillside combines run but couldnt because my wife had to be back at work.

Interesting journal !! What i find really interesting is that it appears the elevator is piling wheat OUTSIDE on the GROUNDIJ Is that a common practiceIJ Here in Southern Ontario that would be a big NO-NO due to weather concerns ,The local elevator has piled grain corn on the ground in the past but only in years with bumper crops, the last being about 5 years ago when they had about 700,000bu of corn( dry) on the ground!!

Typically wheat will form a thin crust if it's rained on and all the wheat underneath won't be affected. The elevators only dump on the ground when they run out of storage capacity.
