Combines harvestec corn head

Tried the new style 8 row that they have out. Cuts stalks well but longevity of the header is my concern.

I wouldn't waste time on the lawn mower headers that are floating around out there. They arent built as well and resale and parts support are iffy. Take a long look at the Geringhoff. They are more proven and built to last and have a really good resale. There is lots of them running in this area and haven't heard of anyone that wishes they wouldn't have bought one.

I went from a Gerringhoff PC 630 to Harvestec this year. Been quite satisfied with the Harvestec, does as good a job as the Gerringhoff with less power consumption. As far as maintainance, I can't really say as I only used the Harvestec on 80 acres, but the Gerringhoff was getting to be quite a bit of trouble, although it does appear to be built heavier built than the harvestec, I believe the method of chopping causes much strain on the head and combine drive, particularly in tough conditions.The RD (newer) Gerringhoffs use a differnt method of chopping, and are probably much better but appear very complex to maintain. One person I know had Harvestec head and traded it for a Drago and likes that better. Another person had 12 row Deere traded it for Gerringhoff and then traded it back in to Deere for another Deere head, they did not like how hard it pulled and price of parts on Gerringhoff, the thing I like about Drago are the auto adjusting sripper plates I run caseih so far but think drago might be my next.

Talk to Mike or Jamie at Elliotts in Thorndale, near london. They have a couple of used ones there now. There is a lot of them out that way.

The harvestec DOES do a really good job of choppng stalks, however dependability was a major concern. I personally know 6 users of this head. If you push harvest speeds, things were not holding up, say over 4 mph. Taking it easy, no one seemed to have problems. One guy in particular does well over 2000 acres with his and had major problems in down time, however he liked the job it did so well that he bought a new 8 row this year. The new one is far better engineered and after his 2000+ acres he had no problems. The new model seems to be a winner. If you don't do a huge amount with it, and don't push things to hard, you will probably get along fine with a older model used one.
