Been through this once. Had a series of three bad thunderstorms in October just as corn ripened. 99% of stalks were all the way over, but not broken off. Tried platform, row crop head, and even the man with pitch fork......non of them worked. Bought an aftermarket 'corn reel' and mounted it on the corn head. This thing was amazing. Travel speed was still slow.....1 to 1.5 mph, but it was steady and no plugging. Keys to success with downed corn are 1) stalks not broken off 2) low cornhead angle...small tires in front of combine and_orwedge kit on feederhouse 3)Kelderman or similar corn reel 4)gentle handling of stalk...slow down cornhead 5) dry soil conditions. Good luck!
