Unless you already have the row head or need it for something else I would pass on it and get set up with a ray-mac-3way. You don't take into the machine near the fm with the ray-mac. Also allows you to run when the seed is dry and the stalk is green. Having said that I have an up dated 853 that I would let go pretty cheap if you or someone else is interested. located in SC Kansas.

THe first thing to do is to either get yourself a 2 solid grates or fill the back two gates with tin to reduce the amount of chaff on the top seive. Another main thing is to make sure that you have either an adjustable air foil on the top or just an adjustable top seive. I usually run the rotor(spec rotor) at about 330 rpm. I guess as far as an header we run a 20' 810 header with sunflower pans on our 2188. With the capacity I would like a bigger header but when you are rasing 2200lb sunflowers you cant make it down and back. CT up in ND

Chadh, I haven't cut a lot of sunflowers but this is what I've learned with the few I've cut. First you will have to cover up all three grates or buy solid grates. Than open the concaves about wide open and slow the rotor down to about 150 RPM. The trick to doing a good job is to get the head through the combine without breaking it up, and this is best done if you can harvest them when the head is still a little wet but the seeds are dry. I found that my JD row crop head worked very good in some varieties and not so good in others. Good luck! K.A.

what do you want for the 853IJ and on the sunflower pans, is that a totally seperate head or do you put those on your bean head. we also raise milo and could use the row crop on that too. we are raising the milo and sunflowers for the bird food company here on a contract. NW indiana.

3000 on the row head. lovejoys, A-series rotary knives, speed up sprockets and bish adaptor for caseih, three years running on new floor under auger, 32 new brgs in the top quils, if cutting beans I would put in new gathering belts but would run quite a while on milo and flowers, tin is straight, two plastic snouts installed one extra goes with the head. 10ton running gear for $1000 which it is setting on now. pidgeon poop priceless. A Ray-Mac attaches to a header with the reel removed. It will harvest dryland corn, milo and flowers. I have mine on a 20' ridgid head. I run large wire concaves, one slotted grate then two blanks. The object of the game is to try to bust up the head as little as possible as the fm weighs about the same as the seeds.

Another option if you are going to have alot of sunflowers is the sunflower header that Sunmaster makes I guess that they are suppose to work perty well. As far as the raymac's I will have to find that out for ya CT up in ND

I have a 30' IHC 810 head with intersteel 9" pans with drum reel I would like to sell and they work really good. I have harvested alot of sunflowers over the years any IJ call 785-821-4309 located in NW Kansas.
