I was in the same position as yourself just last year, but I went ahead and traded for the 9650. Convinced that Deere quality was outstanding how could I possibly lose; but lose I did....The John Deere has such bug ridden electronics that to keep it in the field for more than 2 days at a time, has been a real chore. Almost all of those who bought 9650's or 9750's have had MAJOR problems with the Air conditioning. It simply stops working and no matter how many switches are put in, it will continue not to work until the electronics are revised. Secondly, if one happens to spill coffee on the right control panel, one has just shorted out 3 more electronic boards that will require dealer replacement. As the cup holder is located right next to this, figure that one out. 3 9750's have burned to the ground in my area, but you can bet John Deere isn't saying anything! Add to this, that the chopper on the back must be reworked as if one cuts beans too early, the combine will become full of chaff and there is another half day to clean out. (But your 2388 will be able to cut at the same time )At the present time, my dealer has 19 new chopper shafts to replace in the STS chopper. You can, go ahead and buy one as John Deere will straighten this out, but for the next several years, you are little more than test data for them....

large farmer near me trades four machines every year. Up till this year they have allways been Deere (9500 sh's). last season they had so much trouble with three of four (one went whole season having to be jump started every time, never understood that one) and owner was joking that the dealer should have rented a trailer for the mechanic to live in on their job. Anyway this season they have two new 2366 w_hillco levelers. The IH dealer didn't want all four deeres on his lot so the owner decided to hedge and traded the remaining 9550's on new deeres again. Haven't talked to him yet to see how they have worked out.

Well maybe you've been blessed with a IH, but i know for a fact that there are 4 large farmers in our area In ontario all within 5 miles of us we, We all cash crop, about 4 to 5 thousand acres, with one machine, and you'll never guess what colour (Green) two out of 5 of us had Ih 2388's and before that they had 8820's and 9600's. last fall they all traded to a new 9650sts, Ih are good combines but only for a year then you can't keep them in the field. One guy wore a hole in the rotor flighting after the first year, and there was no stone damage. Ih combines are made cheap! You look at the chains on a IH and compare them to a Deere. Gauge the auger Flightings the deeres are thicker. Heavier shafts. Better Bearings. An last but not least if the Deere does break down, SERVICE and PARTS availability,. Oh and one last thing BUY a MUG for your coffee it might safe you some money. Its not DEERES fault you spilt coffee on the board. So don't blame them. Its all in the operator.

Funny that you mention not being able to keep IH's in the field,...........Hummm I just traded a 1680 (2400) hours, and before that a 1460 (2800) hours...I must admit that I was unaware of the fact that Ontario raised anything but snow.........Come down here to Il...we'll show you what crops are for, and how combines handle them...Yes you do have good parts..As complicated as the JD's are, you need lOTS of em!!!

Its funny how you mention that all we grow is snow, but me must be doing something right. We grow 120 bushel wheat 60 bushel soyabeans, and 200 bushel corn. IH is the only combine i know of that you can buy all the parts at TSC stores

As to getting parts for IH's at TSC, that is fine with me, ther parts are cheaper and if TSC has them that also must indicate that there are a huge number of the red ones out there....
