Combines Head Size

That sort of depends on what you're cutting and how fast you want to go I guess. In beans, I ran a 15' cutter (taking six rows) and that seemed to be about all it wanted to handle. But it was a lousy head that didn't feed very well. It was always letting the beans pile up and then would run in a large bunch at one time. I've seen plenty of guys running a 20' head on a 6620 but I think that's pushing it unless you really want to crawl along. In ideal conditions with a good head that feeds the crop well, I think you could run a 20' head without much problem.

We ran a 925 for a number of years on our 6620, our average wheat yield is about 30 bus. Anything less is wasting combine capacity. In my books the slower the better, as the machine is loaded more evenly. Just try picking a single swath then moving to a double. Your trucker will wonder where all the wheat came from. Deere offers a pulley changeup to adjust knife speed on these newer headers on old machines and viseversa.

Alot of people around here run 224's and 222's on them. One guy even runs a 30ft draper on his but he had to put some wieghts on the back.

I run a 16.5 820 on mine and 863 corn head. 3mph in 60 bu beans and 4.5 in 150 bu corn. An 18 footer will probly slow me down some but keep the roter full and do a better job thrashing. I think horse power is the limiting factor with a 1440. My 2 cents. Dan
