That is way to much gap. It should be between .030 to .120". It is shim adjustable. Be sure the large nut that holds hub on is tight. If that nut has backed off the hub holding the magnet could move away from plate. I can't imagine anything wrong with idler bearings in pulley that holds plate to cause this much gap. Must just be shimmed way wrong or nut has backed off. Good luck

Nut must be backing off when I back out a slug. Gap changes from 1_4 inch to 1_16 when it is working. How many foot pounds should I tighten the nut down toIJ Thanks for your advise!

Around 250 Ft. lbs. should work. It is important that this nut is tight (just like all other drive retaining nuts on machine) for it puts shaft into compresion and prevents bearings or hubs from working on shaft. I have often times found nut on this shaft loose with no damage to anything but it is good to get it tight. The hammer on the end of an adjustable wrench just isn't a good idea on some of this stuff. I got nervous that I told you to high of torque. Shouldn't be no problem at 250 but I looked it up today anyway. I didn't find printed torque in R62-72 manual but did in the R65-75 manual. That drive has been the same for ever so I'd go by that book. It's printed to torque to 160 Ft. lbs. Have a good day.

Would the clutch pull more amp if the gap is wider at 1_4 in.IJ how much amp sould the clutch pullIJ Thanks Dee

I found the problem. It was the bearing on the back side of the varable speed. Would lock up and spin shaft enough to loosen nut (I think). To get that shaft out is a big job, they could have made it alot easyer to get the back three bolts out and back in. What is the easyest way to put the belt on the sheave, we pulled the hydo cylnder off the shaft to get belt over sheave, so I wouldn,t have to take the 3 bolts out again to put the belt on. THANKS FOR All YOUR HElP !

We use a come along cable lift threaded threw two ears just above shaft. We support with cable as we slide shaft to left far enough to install belt. With rear sheaves all the way apart and front sheaves spread apart with crow bar you can slip belt right on. To question below on amp draw. It will draw approx. 4 amps no matter what the gap is. Warmer clutch will draw some less and colder will draw a bit more. With gap adjusted at .030 to .120" it will have no trouble snaping on.
