Combines header electrical conections

I asked if anyone has converted the little connectors to one big one to save time and eliminate all the screwing around to change heads. Suggestions ranged from using a connector from an 800 head to a truck trailer connector. The biggest truck trailer connector I have found is 7 pins and if I recall correctly I need something like 12 pins. So far, I havent seen an 800 head yet. After much frustration, I gave up on it until next month when we get the R60 out of storage. Have you run across anything betterIJ It is refreshing to see there is at least one other guy who is tired of plugging and unplugging those little connectorsIJ Tom Russell

Don't you just love staying nice and clean all day and then you have to trailor your header and dig around for the three small connectors. after wheat harvest i think I will try to move them into one plug and locate it a little farther away from the machine Tim

Depending on how much current has to run through the electrical connectors, AMP makes "cannon" plugs that can have well over 30 pins. I've seen them over 2 inches in diameter.

Might check at www.digikey.com and do a search for AMP and circular connectors. A few I found were only about $4.00.

Many planter monitors use the AMP connectors you describe and they are super reliable and easy to take apart for a guy who is ready for a shower at the end of a hard day in the field. There is no doubt they will work for header height control wires, but are they heavy enough to handle power wires for the auto reel fore_aft adjuster as you mentioned in your postIJ Do you have any ideas on how to find out if AMP connectors are heavy enoughIJ Sometime next month we will get the R60 out of the storage building so we can determine current draw and until then we are stabbing in the dark on how heavy we need the connector to be. The boys at Gleaner have never had to unhook a bean head late in October at about 3 AM when the wind is blowing and the old fingers dont want to function the way they did several years ago. One night I thought about cutting the wires with a side cutter as I sat in the cab with my hands in front of the heater outlets. There has to be a better way. Tom Russell

I think I have a Digikey catalog around here some place. I'll see if I can find out the specs. How many wires are you going to need to connectIJ

Rolf, It looks like you guys may be ahead of us on that one. The local car parts store has Pollak connectors but nothing like you describe. I would appreciate a photo or an addy if you can, or better yet post it on the board so others can get it as well. What season are you in nowIJ Are you getting ready for planting or harvestIJ Tom Russell
