Combines Header height gauge

My dad came up with this to straight cut wheat here in Ontario. You need a yard stick, small hinge a few machine bolts and sheet metal screws, and a 1 X5 inh piece of sheet metal The hinge is bolted to the bottom of the yard stick . This is then mounted on the right side of my 860's cabon to the feeder housing. The yard stick sits flat against the glass. Make a hoop out of the scrap sheet (so that it will hold the yard stick next to the glass) and bolt it to the cab. position this gadget so you can view it easily To maintain the same height all you now need is a piece of electrical tape on the glass in the cab. Find the height you need to maintain position the tape and Voila. I am sure other things could be used to do the same. let us know how you make out. Hope this helps.

I took some thin cable ,attached it to the feeder house, kinda under the cab , routed it through a eyebolt that was allready in the cab front lower support, then used a bungi cord and hooked it in the air vents ar top of cab. Marked the window with a marker and it works like a champ. Junkman

Many european combines have a pressure gauge on the header hydraulic circuit if you touch the ground the pressure drops it is as simple as that. Often crops over here go down so we are used to working close to the ground. Be aware though that we use much tougher headers. American headers soon fall apart if they try working over here
