Combines Heat

It sounds about normal, I don't know how hot it gets temperature wise. When I was on a custom harvesting crew we carried a broom in the engine compartment of our R-60 until one day we noticed the bristles were melting when they touched the sheet metal. John

This is very normal especially in the air cooled engine. We run a 9190 Deutz engine and the side of the tractor gets so hott its hard to hook up the refueling wires. It also makes it hard to keep paint on the hood! So i would think its very normal. Good luck!

From what all of you have described, the temperatures maybe normal, but in all cases they are just to hot. These temperature in this range definitely cause metalurigical stress.

I stopped combining wheat with my R7 today, as it is close to 40 celcius (103 F) and the temp guage was "flirting" with the red zone. Had an air conditioning thermometer handy, so I took temperatures in the engine compartment, both on the floor of the compartment( as well as 1' in the air). Metal was over 58 C or 130-135 F. Metal that was uncomfortable to touch (in my observation) was around 120 F or 50 C. Hope that helps. David

Try something besides all that "self pollinating." Nothing like "the good ole summer time."

Heat index in Pipestone Minnesota was 123 degrees the other day. The wind chill can easily get -60 to -80 degrees around there so that is like a 200 degree difference in just a few months.
