Combines Help changing rotor belt

red; Glad to hear you got the heavier belt as they last longer. The best way to change the belt however, is to have an owners manual. Step by step instructions are published for all belt procedures including rotor belt replacement. I cannot stress enough, the importance of an operators manual!

Red hot is right! But in pinch (and nutshell) loosen the 4 bolts that keep the rotor gearcase in place. loosen the double nuts on the belt tightener rod. Use the special tool provided with the combine to compresss the torque spring. THIS NEXT IS VERY IMPORTANT! DO NOT take the drive sheave loose from the tower. Simply remove the 4 bolts at the U-joint on the drive shaft that goes to drive the rest of the machine. Also remove the stud that keeps the rotor speed changer in place. loosen the rotor speed changer chain and remove. It's been long enough I don't remember if the wires to the motor have to come off. but logic says they would. Install the new belt beginning by placing it over the drive shaft on the drive side. Then place it in the driven pulley which should be spread wide with the special tool. Next place it over the drive pulley. Now reverse the disassembly proceedure. Take the special tool off the driven pulley as well. Finally tighten the belt adjusting bolt while rotating the pulleys until you can install a 3_8 key stock between the driven pulley halves. NOTE: The rotor drive pulley must be fully open or at the slowest rotor speed for this to work. Remember to tighten the four bolts on the rotor gearcase.HTH

If you dont have the "special tool" you dont need it, just use a bar to spread the driven pulley.

when i was at the dealer looking at the 1440 that i ended up buying, i looked at that big ole belt, i asked the dealer how long they lastedIJ he wouldn't say, i told him that it looked like a pain in the a** to replace, he said it was!! i then asked him how much for the dealer to replace it if it broke... he said 2 men, $200.00 plus the price of the belt...sounds like a deal to me!!! maybe i'm just getting lazy in my old age!!

Hmm! Sounds like that dealer was out to make a profit! I can do this myself in 45 minutes.It's not all that bad a job.
