unit 3, I just started mine this aft and found the same problem! I am going to try in the morning getting another topless guard for the pitman side and maybe one for the right side ( I will put a couple wear strips in under them just for spacers). I don't see how this will work by reverseing the drive bar. If I get it going tomorrow I will let you know. I was going to try and put the wear strips on the bottom but I don't think that will work. Our beans are two weeks away so I am not in a panic. later Dave

Good to hear that I am not the only one with this problem. After typing in to you I went back out the the combine and I think now the same as you. Put about 2 or 3 of the topless guards on the pitman end. Then I think all will be right. It sure is something that you can look at a problem and it looks like there is no answer. Then look again at it and it's not so bad.

I have not removed the far right guard yet but I don't know if it will work reversed or not (because of the snout travel)! If not I will put spacers in the bottom and use the open one there also. later Dave

Me again. Well things look better to me now. The far right and left guards got the outside points ground off to fit in behind the sheilds. We have a neighbor that sells the SCH so we got 1 more topless guard from him tonight so the left end looks like the problem is solved for now. We split the bar at the splices so we just had to turn the teeth on about 5 feet on each end. If I remember right, our old 530 did not have any splices in the bar. That would give me my fill of using a 10mm socket. We will have a small test plot and see if what I think is better, really is. Just letting the head down onto the ground in the shed, it looks lower. If it don't rain tonight here in NC Iowa, tomorrow, we will have our plot and 1st field done. All 0.2 acres of it. The rest will be another week or more. Good luck with yours and keep your fingers out of the way. I had just a little blood lose whiching ours.

unit3, let me know how it works, please. Are you going to tilt the knives as well or had you already done this. I was set up for straw so I have my cutterbar fairly flat. I tipped mine down almost all the way last year for beans but that was too close and can turn your head into a stone picker! Thanks and safe harvesting, Dave

Finally got to run it some. It was worth doing. Thanks Keith. It is the best job of cutting we have ever done.
