Combines high moisture canola

21% canola....thats playing with dynamite. Will heat on you in 2 days. How many bushels have you got of itIJ Have you got the facilities to turn it every so oftenIJ I know how you feel, since I'm from east central Sask., and know of a lot farmers with canola left to harvest. Forcast don't look to darn good either. With canola prices high this year, a lot of farmers are taking off tough and damp canola, hoping to dry it later. If you gotta do it now, my suggestion is to have a lot of hopper bins, and turn it daily till you get it to the drier.

leave it in the field . you will lose it at that moisture level. It will keep even if snowed under and will still be worth more in the spring than sample or worse now. Even if you dry it hard the chance of deterioration exists. my experience Rod

A neighbor lost his dryer to fire when he tried to dry his canola. I filled a 2500 bushel bin with 10% moisture canola and it started to set up on me a couple of years ago. I don't like to put anything in a bin unless 9 or under. I would think it would be better to leave it in the field. I have harvested canola after it has had 5 inches of snow on it.

thanks for your thought s guys. all well received. forgot to mention all canola is standing. cut a half section yesterday 4000bushels , poor yield. all will be sample anyway I imagine. moisture was17-21. came out of hopper bin that fed dryer no problem but tough out of semis as it would stand up. so far dryer keeping up with combines as it snowed today and semis were full. going to try again tonight when it freezes harder. best of luck

Did you use a pusher and cutting it straight or do you have a variety that doesn't shell outIJ I have a 27 acre piece that I couldn't get to because of rain and the hail destroyed it. Was wondering what happens to canola that was pushed and gets hail.

Actually we had 3 different varieties an older invigor. hybrid canola of some sort, and most of it was just common canola. Excel very little shelled but with thecrop we had we were scared if we swathed it there was no stubble to hold it in place. figured better chances of letting it stand. got 600 acres of it done before last snowfall yesterday. if I had a 40 bushel crop I probably would have swathed it. sure like straight cutting it though.
