I installed whole cage steep pitch helicals in 97 R72 in summer of 2002, and I consider it a must to remove the rotor to do it. Is easy to remove anyway. Hardest part was drilling a number of new holes to bolt them in, as the chromed cage is TOUGH! learned to use portable grinder to remove chrome layer where you need to drill, and then use the best bits; maybe use smaller bit for pilot hole first. Unless you know you need whole cage done, I would suggest only do the thresh(right) side. That is what I would do next time. Use no reverse bars, and a Sunnybrook rotor, and you are in combine Nirvana. $.02

They are in the Gleaner parts book for large P3s. There are three different lengths. You would need four long and one short to do thresher side only on large P3s depending on how you do small three you could maybe get by with just one long one. They are chromed and will carry the material around to front side of seperator grate. The standard or normal pitch helicals will pick up the material after the seperator grate. We used to mark the hole locations and then center punch deeply. We then grind away chrome until punch mark is nearly gone. If you don't remove the chrome to diameter of bit it will just eat the bit. I now just lay the plasma cutter were I want the holes and blow myself the hole. If you choose to leave first helical from gearbox alone and just extend 2nd helical to the helical extention accross feeder and the third to seperator grate you can get by with just one long helical cut in approx half. You'll need to have rotor out and you'll see more of what we talk about. I have and some others have shimmed steep pitch bars especially if doing complete thresher and or seperator side. I shimmed one machine with 1_4" flat iron which is sure over kill. If shimming I would use 1_8" flat iron and have it wider than helical so you can protrude toward disharge side of helical. Protruding the shims toward discharge comes from our down under friends and helped the old P1 flat iron system greatly and surely don't hurt with the channel iron helicals. Anyway it kind of depends what you want to get into it. My personal favorite for eaze and bang for your buck is 1_8" shimmed steep pitch thresher side only. Good luck
