I installed a Hillco Fan Kit on my 1680 shortshoe and it helped, but not enough - especially in wheat. I couldn't get enough air to the middle of the chaffer. I traded up to a 2388 to get the air and hp.

The Hillco fan kit will give you some benefit. What will make a huge difference is an AirJet chaffer. In 1993, when the cross-flow fan kit became available, I installed one in a short shoe 1680 and in a long shoe 1680. Side by side comparison demonstrated that he cross-flow fan kit noticeably helped the long shoe machine. In wheat, I found the cross-flow fan diminished the performance of the short shoe machine. If you want to make a "better than new" performing machine out of your 1680 combine, put an AirJet chaffer in it. Hillco fan kit or not, you will be more than pleased with the performance.
